The Z/F/C generation

Augmented Reality Today: WARM ‘09 from Ori Inbar on Vimeo.

When I became interested in computers, internet and in everything connected to it it was already too late for me to become a computer geek, social media expert, so on and so forth… I was drawn into it by the untapped flow of information set free and amplified with every click, app or profile I had.

At first I had the impression that users on the web become aspie-like and I still do believe they are just focused on the information exchanged, on non-social sites. Yet any socially relevant element would immediately change this information-seeking behavior and transform it into an information-generating behavior. Moreover, it would encourage the user to interact, share, connect, express, influence the status -quo, etc. The participative nature of the online is definetely not new and not incomprehensible. But for sure, generation Z, as Ori says, has something special and very powerful… Whether it is a complex skill (computer literacy + communication skills + rapid change assimilation capabilities) or a sort of “virtual innate” set of traits… they hold in their hands the power to manipulate and use information to an amazing extent, beyond our genetic and bio-psychological possibilities…

I disbelieve that by 2019 we will feel a major change, but what I can say is this…
If anybody tells me again … “myspace and facebook is for kids and is a loss of time”… I will point out that these myspace and facebook users (which most likely are twitter, linkedin, friendfeed & the suite users too) are more likely to do a better job than anybody who refused exploring these social networking sites for any reason at all..
